About

Hi! I'm Caitlin!

While my mental health is well-managed now with medication, therapy, and a variety of coping skills, I know what it’s like to lose hope. Having lived with bipolar disorder for more than six years, and through a couple of scary bouts with postpartum psychosis, I know from my experiences in the psychiatric unit that finding hope is the key to unlocking the door out of the darkness.

You can read more about why I write here, but it's mostly because maybe long after I’m gone, I’ll have a great-granddaughter who finds a copy of things I've written. I dearly hope that she doesn’t experience the same darkness that I have, but perhaps upon reading it during a time of discouragement, she’ll unlock the door to sunshine.

Even with my best efforts, I still experience typically mild symptoms--just enough to remind me it's important to keep those efforts going.

I was diagnosed shortly after the birth of our first child, a daughter, who came following years of infertility, to my sweetheart, Greg, and I. She has autism. Six years later, we added a son to our family who was born six weeks early and has a heart condition that will likely need repair in the next couple of years. Just two days short of 12 months later, a surprise daughter joined us.

I also juggle a recent diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes, a part-time technical writing position, and more hopes and dreams than I have time for.

Thanks for stopping by. As long as you’re kind, you’re always welcome here. I hope you’ll come around often.
